DS Data Systems Iberia inform you about the launch of Sun Java Enterprise System 6 ![]()
Sun Java Enterprise System (ES) delivers an integrated enterprise services software system that is designed, developed, and tested to provide a consistent experience to IT and business users. Java ES 6 is the latest release, offering more products, compatibility testing, and interoperability testing than Java ES 5. It also employs the installers of its constituent products instead of a single-host installer for more flexibility in setting up enterprise-level deployments. With Java ES, customers get a comprehensive set of subscription-based services that combines software, support, professional services and educational services in a single package for a single price, which is based on employee count. Java ES R6 consists of the following Java System Suites: Sun Java Enterprise System Base a core set of application platform and identity components for enterprises
Sun GlassFish Portfolio a complete application platform for major enterprises, startups, and smbs - Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server 2.1: Enterprise Manager (in Gold and Platinum only) and HADB (in Gold and Platinum only)
Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite 6 Update 1 (Java CAPS) a complete SOA/BI platform for composite apps and legacy integration
Sun Java Identity Management Suite enables enterprise secure, streamlined, and simplified process for managing users
Sun Java Availability Suite an integrated platform that provides multiple levels of availability
New software components introduced in this release:
With the Java ES, customers can purchase the above listed components based on their business requirements. As business needs change, additional Suites can easily be added. Testing in Java ES 6
Sun's Pascal Prevot discussed the testing methods used for this latest version of the Java ES in his blog. His team's goals were to detect interoperability issues as soon as possible in the development cycles, ensure that most standard customer-based configurations were functional, and to ensure that Java ES remained functional on the most common virtualization technologies. To achieve those goals, a new approach was taken that worked on pre-integration testing and system-level interoperability. He explains a bit about these "layers" and promises to detail more in future blogs about the benefits. "...I can already say we're continuing in the same mode to prepare the future Java ES versions," he writes. "Meanwhile, let's celebrate this Java ES R6 release, worth trying for sure!" Open Source and Java ES 6
Another value point made by Paul Hinz is the intertwining of enterprise and open source products and support. "Java ES R6 provides the benefits of both open source and of enterprise applications. Enterprises can leverage open source community versions and leverage the support of the community forums and eco-systems for projects that do not require a service-level-agreement," Hinz writes, "and can then leverage the enterprise versions of Java Enterprise System Suites - plus the additional value add components only available when purchasing the suite. ... This dual strategy allows customers the maximum flexibility when planning their use of open source and enterprise components." Source of this news: Sun Systems News |
